Authority and Identity Management

Authority and Identity Management

Welcome!

The Yale University Library catalog (Quicksearch) contains authority records to maintain consistent access points. They also generate cross references that facilitate search and retrieval.

Yale catalog and metadata librarians create new authority records and update existing ones in OCLC Connexion and WorldShare Record Manager via the cooperative cataloging program NACO. These records become part of the Library of Congress Authorities, a master file shared with libraries throughout the world.

As participants in the Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO, librarians also create Library of Congress Subject, Genre/Form Terms, and Demographic Proposals via the ClassWeb Plus Proposal System.

Staff in Resource Discovery Services help maintain authority control in Alma by correcting access points and headings in bibliographic records, and reviewing reports that facilitate retrospective database cleanup activities.
